About Gondwana BioReserve
Where ancient wisdom meets modern science to create thriving ecosystems for the future
Our Mission
The Gondwana BioReserve is a subtropical rainforest restoration initiative in Brookfield, Queensland— 15 km from Brisbane's CBD. Inspired by the ancient Gondwanan forests and built on regenerative science, our mission is to create a thriving sanctuary that reconnects people, species and ecosystems through ecological design, digital monitoring and cultural collaboration.
We transform degraded peri-urban land into dense, biodiverse Miyawaki forests that accelerate canopy growth and sequester carbon. From endangered koalas to our ambassador 'Ritchie' the Richmond Birdwing butterfly, we're creating safe havens for Australia's most vulnerable species.
Our Core Values
Ecological Restoration
We transform degraded peri-urban land into dense, biodiverse Miyawaki forests that accelerate canopy growth and sequester carbon.
Community & Culture
Hands-on events, school programs, and community workshops put people at the centre of the restoration story.
Science & Innovation
AI planting design, drone monitoring, ecological dashboards and natural capital accounting underpin everything we do.

Our Method: Miyawaki Meets Modern Science
We combine the proven Miyawaki method—globally recognised in the Yokohama Declaration—with cutting-edge sensor technology and AI-powered biodiversity monitoring. Our BirdWeather PUC acoustic sensors continuously capture and analyze bird calls, creating rich datasets that provide real-time feedback on restoration success.
Advanced AI algorithms automatically identify species, track population trends, and measure biodiversity recovery, enabling both academic research and community engagement. This automated monitoring system transforms every detection into actionable data for conservation efforts.
Every forest is fast-growing and fauna-targeted, designed to support native wildlife. We align all plantings and soil preparation with Regional Ecosystem 12.8.3 — a remnant notophyll vine forest community native to Brookfield and the western corridor of Brisbane.
This integration of traditional ecological wisdom with modern sensor networks and AI analysis ensures our restoration efforts are not only authentic and biodiverse, but continuously monitored and optimized for maximum conservation impact.
Why Now?
Australia is a global biodiversity hotspot—yet we're losing species at a world-leading rate. 90% of lowland subtropical rainforest is already gone. The time to act is now.
"This isn't about nostalgia. It's about necessity. We must rewild our cities and our spirits."
— Professor James Watson
Where We Work
The Brookfield pilot is our blueprint. The goal: scale across Australia's peri-urban fringe— areas around 19 major cities ready for regeneration.
Brookfield Pilot
Our flagship Brookfield site demonstrates the full potential of suburban biodiversity restoration.
Regional Expansion
Scaling proven methods across Queensland's southeast corridor and beyond to create wildlife corridors.
National Vision
Our long-term goal is to inspire similar restoration projects across Australia's peri-urban areas.
